Summer School in Statistics for
Astronomers & Physicists
June 5-17, 2005

 

Local Information: The summer school will be held in Thomas Building and Willard Building on the Pennsylvania State University – University Park Campus located in State College, Pennsylvania, USA. The town of State College and the University Park campus combine to offer a relaxed, college town atmosphere with many shops, restaurants and points of interest. The Downtown is conveniently located adjacent to campus. In addition, recreational opportunities abound in and around State College. The area features many fine golf courses, including the University's thirty-six-hole Blue and White courses. On-campus facilities include numerous tennis courts, gymnasiums and swimming facilities. Accommodations: Lodging during the program sessions is provided at Comfort Suites at no cost to the admitted participants. As a requirement for lodging at no cost, a roommate (double occupancy) will be assigned (all rooms contain two double beds and pull-out couch). You may suggest a roommate. Detailed accommodation related information is listed on the conference registration form.
Additional housing options (at your own cost of $58/night) include early/late arrival or single occupancy housing. Comfort Suites, located near the campus at 132 Village Drive, State College, is a pleasant and well-managed hotel adjacent to campus (15 to 20 minute walk to the summer school site). The hotel (approximately six miles from the airport) is located just off North Atherton Street near Blockbuster Video. The hotel offers free high–speed internet access, complimentary breakfast, exercise room, and indoor pool. Each room has a mini-refrigerator, coffee maker and extra sink. Guest coin-laundry (washer and dryer) is available on premises. The local phone number for the hotel is 814-235-1900. 

Important Visa Information: International participants arriving from outside the United States will need a B-1 or WB (visa waiver business classification); B-2 or WT (visa waiver tourist classification). (more details ...)

Travel: Delta Connection, US Airways Express, Northwest Airlink, and United Express serve the University Park Airport, State College, PA, located approximately six miles from the conference site.
Please check with your local travel agent or internet travel web site for current flight schedules and connections with direct commuter service to State College (SCE), Pennsylvania through Dulles (IAD), Washington, D.C.; Philadelphia (PHL), Pennsylvania; Cincinnati (CVG), Ohio and Detroit (DTW), Michigan. Connections are also possible through Philadelphia and New York airports. The airports' reference codes are indicated in parentheses. Be sure your final destination is State College/University Park Airport (SCE). Taxi and shared limousine services are available at the State College/University Park Airport.

Additional Travel Information: Greyhound bus service is available from major cities to State College, Pennsylvania. Centre Area Transportation Authority (CATA bus) serves the State College area.
