Air
travel:
US Airways Express, Northwest
Airlink, and United Express serve the University
Park Airport (State College PA, airport code SCE) located six miles
from the summer school
site. Connections can be made through
Washington-Dulles (IAD), Philadelphia (PHL), and
Detroit (DTW). Taxi and shared limousine services are
available at the State College/University Park Airport. Car
rental is available at the airport but is not needed. Airport shuttle is available for
participants staying at Days Inn Penn
State (prior to or upon arrival to the University Park Airport, call the hotel at 814-238-8454 or 800-258-3297 to schedule courtesy airport pick-up). Alternatively, taxis are often located outside of baggage claim, curbside. Below is a list of recommended taxi companies:

Ground
travel:
Route I-99 connects State College with I-80 and I-70. The campus
is within driving distance of many major cities, including Harrisburg
(1.5 hours, 90 miles); Pittsburgh (3 hours, 137 miles); Philadelphia
(3.5 hours, 194 miles); Baltimore (3.5 hours, 155 miles); Washington,
D.C. (4 hours, 190 miles); and New York City (5 hours, 250 miles). Maps

Greyhound
bus service is available from major cities to State College,
Pennsylvania.
Visa information:
International participants arriving from outside
the United States with passports from 35 countries in the Visa
Waiver Program who have machine-readable passports may be able to
travel without
a visa. Participants from other countries will need a B-1 (business) visa or B-2 (tourist) visa.
Note: Obtaining U.S.
visas
may require a visit to a U.S. consulate or embassy, payment of a fee,
and
significant wait
time. Please
contact the local U.S. consulate or embassy for the up to date
information.
Letter of invitation:
Individuals requiring an official letter of invitation in order to
attend the summer school may write to John Farris at JLF30@outreach.psu.edu.
This may be
needed to obtain a visa or permission to attend the meeting, and is
unrelated to any assistance with costs. Please include your name,
professional title, business address, phone
number, e-mail address, and fax number. The letter will be provided by
fax. Note: a letter of invitation is provided only after the individual has completed registration for the summer school.
